Chapter History
In the beginning Nandlal Master, a resident of Nagepur (Usrapatti) village, started teaching to poor children from weaver’s community. At the age of seventeen, he started an informal education centre in the evening with only four children from weaver’s families, who were struggling with bonded labour and inspired by him, other youths of the village also joined hands. It is worth mentioning that when Nandlal Master started his efforts in Nagepur, the village was struggling with complex problems such as illiteracy and bonded labour. After this, with the support of Asha Group, Nandlal Master started his project Navjyoti (Asha Rajatlab).
Asha Rajatlab (NJSS) works on education in various village of Aaraji line block at district Vanarasi (Uttar Pradesh). Through the Asha Rajatlab (NJSS), he gave new dimensions to his efforts in last twenty-five years, under which villagers registered their active participation not only in the field of education but also in other vital areas like building a discrimination-free society, women leadership, women empowerment, teenage girls education.
The organization provides primary education in a center and non-formal education (Vocational training program) in about 10 kishori kendras and more than 80 self help groups in Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Objectives
- To provide primary education and non-formal education to under-privileged children.
- Pay special attention to the education of girls, develop awareness about their rights through education. by providing non formal education and vocational training to the young and married women.
- Developing self help groups of women for economic independence, leadership and empowerment.
Asha Social School
Asha social school provide education from LKG to fifth class. More than three thousand children have successfully completed their primary education from this school. Currently, about 300 children are studying at Asha Social School.

Achievements
Abolishment of bonded child labour –
Running a continuous education program with the weavers community in this area now through Asha Social School, children have been relieved of inhuman practice like child labour and bonded child labour.
First Asha School registered under the Right To Education Act in India – Asha Social School (Rajatlab) is the first school in India which has completed all the norms under the Right to Education Act and the Uttar Pradesh government recognized the running of schools from class I to class 8 under RTE.
Our Activities
Asha Bal Pustakalay (Student’s Library): Asha Bal Library is being started at Asha Rajatalab Centre. In this library books from school to college and also different competitive exams are available. Apart from the children of Asha Social School, more than 320 students from secondary school and village are the active member of the library.
Girl’s Sewing Training Centre : Asha Rajatlab established 10 sewing centres for teenagers girls and women in different villages of ArajiLine Block to make them self-independent. Apart from the sewing there are some training and awareness program related to women health, rights and development also organized from time to time.
Women Self Help Groups (SHG) and Women Empowerment: With the objective of making women more powerful, self-reliant and promote their leadership there are 80 women self help groups are organized in different villages of Arajiline Block. Every month these women groups save small amount of money. And time to time with theses women workshop and training on gender, women rights, women health and self-employment also organised.
Girls Summer Camp organized: Kishori Summer Camp is being organized for the last 10 years. For one month this summer has been organized for rural girls in which they got vocational training for self-employment and development. In this program, Computer training, English speaking course, Salon course, Self-defence, Making handicraft, dance and music , motorcycle driving Etc.
Other Activities :
- Create people’s organization named Lok Samiti.
- Developing youth group to establish gender equality.
- Labour union (MNREGA) for the welfare and ensure the rights of labours.
- Environment awareness and creative program for the protection of nature.
- Stopping the exploitation of water.
- Activity to ensure the Right to Education, Right to work, Right to food and Right to information.
- Organise programs in the public interest to protect human rights.
